So you’ve just won the Pritzker Prize and the world’s your oyster. Those big juicy commissions are going to start coming in even faster, you might not even want/need to enter any competitions anymore since people will be asking for you by name now, and for that whole next year you’ll largely be considered the best in the business. That’s why it was very fun to learn that the first project Sverre Fehn worked on after this 1997 Pritzker win was the outhouse below. It’s on the far end of the parking lot connected to his brilliant Norwegian Glacier Museum. As the museum director told us, “I called him and said ‘Congratulations on winning the Pritzker. We need an outhouse. Can you do it?’”

i have been searching for this photo sometime as i couldn't remember the name of the photographer,
by chance i got it today from the news of Joao Silva losing his legs in Landmine.
the photographer Kevin Carter admitted few years later after publishing this photo that he didn't nothing to the little girl apart from releasing the shutter and he committed suicide soon after.
it's just a dilemma while you could take the picture and arouse the awareness of the entire world, or save the little kid from the eagle. either act could probably lead to an absolutely different life of kevin... but no one is possible to judge, as he literally changed the mind of the world.

the second marathon review ended today.
the construction is coming through the investigation, or maybe it's more suitable to call it personal reflection from oneself. it's not about anything outside but within one's emotion and interpretation.

but what you truly are.

水琴窟a traditional instruments (or garden art) to appreciate nature in japanese way, through the echoing within the jar it gives out the amazing sound of water droplets. by seeing such an instruments, other traditions from japan came to my mind, and then i figured out every traditional pieces of art, architecture or culture in japan are so amazing that we just want to go there and observe, study or even learn from them. how could they transform every pieces of idea into such a fantastic history and integrate them into everyday life?
i didn't forget that a lot of them are originated from china, and of course the ancient china which was so clever, creative and powerful. while we spent a lot of years having war within ourselves and destroyed as much traditions as we could... the war did not only empty our traditions, but also our soul. we didn't care about our traditional attitude anymore as a man of the 'modern era'.
we are losing our uniqueness, even soon our varieties of language as well because of the ridiculous policies and attitudes. until a day that we are able to reconstruct our traditions and capture the spirit of the chinese history as a noble status in our everyday lives, we are not complete.

image can never be able to tell the story of architecture, but fragments of compression, translating unlimited spatial atmosphere onto a paper without sound, smell, wind, texture, temperature.... anything else except the visual element.
it could however manage to convey an distilled idea of space in particular time and particular environment that would definitely lead you to another layer of space. and it must not be a lie.

territory
so after two weeks of the spiritual studio, maybe we should start to define the territory a bit more. i tried to look up 'territory' in the wikipedia. some interesting information comes up with simple illustration, but in-depth philosophical inspiration about territoriality.
According to author Julia T. Wood, "men go into women's spaces more than women enter men's spaces" (Wood 2007, p. 144). With this in mind, we can understand that men typically have a stronger sense of ownership and are more likely to challenge others' boundaries. People respond to invasion of territory in different ways depending on what their comfort norms are. Wood (2007) presents three common responses:
as per olaf said 'it does not need us', the territory can be constantly changing and it requires nobody, 'but it made us active and reactive'.

INPUT_OUTPUT: Adaptive Materials and Mediated Environments will address the convergence of several significant and fundamental advancements in the ways that materials and environments are designed, evaluated, and experienced within architecture and related disciplines. The emergence of new and ultra-performing materials, parametric design and modeling tools, integrated design technologies, and developing digital fabrication and prototyping techniques establish an interconnected network of technological inputs that has stimulated the development of materials, assemblies, and systems with adaptive environmental behaviors. This symposium will interrogate the relationships that exist between each of four discrete, yet interrelated technologies of adaptive materials: Material Compositions, Material Fabrications, Material Behaviors, and Material Computations. Through contemporary research, design projects, and theoretical positions, it will frame the evolving context for adaption and mediation within the built environment.

he seems to be able to translate the philosophical idea into construction, his interpretation of architecture from metaphysics. he rejected the 'window' and faced the spiritual challenge of making particularized architecture, it's the insistence of dissolving form but not interface. the attempts of creating the un-objectified architecture are the life-long experiments of his own philosophy, while it cannot be done by certain programmatic approach or from any one-liner architect. it involved the search of one's own language and belief.

POW 08 CONOPS [Concept(s) of Operations], 2008
The POW 08 is a self-propelled apparatus for the use of returning Prisoners of War to enemy lines. The binary nature of the device allows POW 08 to act simultaneously as an AGI [Auxiliary Gatherer of Information] over hostile territory. Sensitive INTEL [Intelligence] is gathered through Infrared live video footage which is collected on its route.
POW 08 is manually operated by the prisoner of war and requires no mechanical propulsion. The apparatus is pushed forward by the shuffling motion of the prisoner, who, with the exclusion of the arms, is fully contained inside the device; this shuffling motion, created by arm to ground traction, is able to generate enough force to move the device.
The slow moving nature of the device allows for higher quality, comprehensive video INTEL.
Due to the low-tech, manual nature of POW 08, the device preserves a high level of RAM [Reliability, Accessibility, Maintainability] and a high level of MOE [Measure of Effectiveness].
The use of POW 08 to return the prisoner renders the threat of a defensive counter attack unlikely as the device is inhabited and maneuvered strictly by the prisoner, permitting LPI [Low Probability of Intercept].
The prisoner who is enclosed inside the POW 08 has a FOV [Field of View] of zero, inducing disorientation. Due to this lack of visibility, it is essential that the prisoner follow OpOrd [Operational Order] directions, transmitted by C³ground units [Command, Control, and Communications] via radio, to insure a safe arrival at enemy lines. The prisoner is securely harnessed inside the device, imprisoned until the apparatus reaches his arrival destination, where the prisoner may be released with outside assistance.
